About the Project
he Zemgale plains are suitable for wind park development due to the stable and consistent winds in the region, which are essential for efficient wind energy production. Eolus Baltics, conducting research in Pienava, located in the Tukums Municipality’s Džūkste Parish, has confirmed that it is possible to develop a wind park at this site.
Eolus plans to install up to 22 wind turbines, making Pienava Wind one of Latvia’s largest onshore wind parks.
Project development timeline:
- On January 21, 2025, a public consultation meeting took place regarding the detailed planning of “Pienava Wind 6” and “Pienava Wind 7.”
- On August 30, 2024, Pienava Wind SIA and Augstsprieguma tīkls AS signed a connection agreement to install a new electricity transmission system, building a 330kV substation in Lejasstrazdi.
- On June 27, 2024, the Tukums Municipality Council approved four detailed plans. See here.
- On May 30, 2024, the State Environmental Inspectorate issued a positive opinion on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) changes for Pienava Wind.
- On October 30, 2023, Pienava Wind applied for an initial environmental impact assessment regarding changes to the planned activities.
- On April 27, 2023, the Tukums Municipality local government made five decisions regarding the commencement of detailed planning. See here.
- On February 1, 2023, Pienava Wind SIA and Augstsprieguma tīkls AS signed an agreement to install a new electricity transmission system connection at the “Lejasstrazdi” substation.
- On July 5, 2022, Pienava Wind received a decision from the Ministry of Economics granting permission to introduce new electricity production equipment.
- At the beginning of 2022, a met mast was installed to measure wind speed. The equipment operated for over two years, collecting data.
- On July 11, 2019, the State Environmental Inspectorate positively opposed Pienava Wind’s EIA (Environmental Impact Report). See the opinion here.
- On November 24, 2017, the State Environmental Inspectorate issued a program for environmental impact assessment. See here.
