Eolus to develop 500+ MW hybrid project in Spain
Eolus has signed an agreement for development of a hybrid project with potential for more than 500 MW installed capacity of solar, wind and energy storage in Spain.
The project area is situated 900 meters above sea level with optimal wind and solar resources, 120 km north of Alicante. The project is envisioned as a hybrid project with both wind and solar, possibly also with batteries or other energy storage technology.
“The agreement is the result of an inquiry from a Spanish landowner. When contacted by the landowner last summer, we followed our entrepreneurial spirit and decided to investigate the possibility although Spain is not a current Eolus market. We found common ground, both in terms of culture and business model, and were able to sign an agreement in March,” says Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus.
The project is in an early stage with estimated COD 2027. The site is divided into phases that can be permitted and constructed in sequencies as grid capacity becomes available.
